Summary: What would you do if you download some foreign MKV movies and you find the MKV video doesn't come with subtitles file.
MKV is a container format that can include video, audio, subtitle and other information.
Usually, your MKV videos already contain subtitle track, then you can always show it in the compatible media players. But if you have downloaded some foreign MKV movies for watching on the
upcoming Christmas with your family and you finally find your MKV video doesn't come with subtitle file, and it is hard for you to understand the movie, then you need to add subtitles to your MKV
video. So, here I will show you a guide to help you add subtitles to MKV file.
Step one: Download subtitles files
So, if you’ve got MKV videos that don’t have any subtitles at all, then you can free download kinds of SRT/ASS/SSA subtitles files from the Internet. Here, I’ll give you top 5 subtitle download sites to download subtitles or you can simply check through a search engine. Subtitle file formats are typically found in .srt, .ass, .ssa.
Step two: Add subtitles to MKV file
To add subtitles to MKV file can be fairly easy and it is not as difficult as you imagine. The file format of the video usually doesn’t matter when it comes to adding subtitles, but naturally, playback is another story depending on how and where you want to watch it.
So here I strongly recommend you Pavtube Video Converter Ultimate. With it, you can not only add subtitles like .ass/.srt to your MKV file, but also add subtitles to other formats, such as mp4, mov, h.265 etc. What is more, you can also convert you MKV file to MP4 format, which is more compatible than MKV for mainstream devices.
Tips: Below guide takes Windows screenshot to explain how it works. If you're running a Mac, you can also follow the same steps. But make sure you get the Pavtube iMedia Converter for Mac for your operating system.
